Take me to church

We rode through a lot of rural nothingness around Beaverdam, VA yesterday, although there are plenty of mostly Baptist churches to be seen. We stopped for a quick lunch we made up (ramen noodles and chili in a can) in the shady courtyard of a church before pushing on south toward Coatesville.

We rode until dark, and not finding any campgrounds or parks, set up in a discreet spot behind some bushes in the backyard of a church. Can you see our camp site? Exactly.

On my 2003 trip, I loved the amazing variety of churches, and abandoned homes out west, often with crops growing right up to the building. One home had curtains fluttering out the broken window. Sadly, they represented a way of life gone by.

Can’t wait to see the west. Did you stay in any of the abandoned buildings? I’ve seen a few that looked safe and like a promising dry place to seek shelter, but my traveling companion is too leery of squatting.

I was just thinking about you and wondering where you are on your journey. Thanks for the photos and report.
